Shawn McKelvey Designs Winning Souvenir Poster

He’s done it again! Shawn McKelvey has won the Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival poster contest for the fourth time.

McKelvey has created four winning posters for the Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival. His first was a pastel pencil of a balloon cluster designed to look like a bunch of grapes flying over Lake Skinner. He also created the 25th anniversary souvenir poster and now with this rendition of the evening balloon glow, McKelvey’s creation becomes the first to show off the colors of the Festival’s evening showcase.

“I wanted to develop a different look and feel for the poster,” stated Shawn McKelvey on his winning design. “The night scene was a great way to bring out the colors of the balloons.”

Since 1988, Shawn has been a freelance illustrator for the toy, entertainment and advertising industries. He’s created game board or product illustrations for Harry Potter, the Game of Life and Whac-a-mole. For the last 10 years Shawn has focused on landscape painting and is represented by the Pinnell Gallery in Fallbrook.

For 27 years this premier event has been charming guests with spectacular dawn hot air balloon launches, premium wine tasting from 22 wineries, gourmet wine and food pairing, evening concerts and evening balloon glows.

Friday concerts include Jimmy Wayne, The Band Perry and Bomshel. Reserve seats are available for this concert. Saturday headliners are Paul Rodgers, Gin Blossoms and Vertical Horizon. Sunday the Wine Stage headliner is Spyro Gyra. The WGAS Freestyle motocross show is at the Main Stage. For more information and tickets visit www.tvbwf.com or call (951) 676-6713.

The Festival will place empty wine barrels in the concert area for donations to Jimmy Wayne's campaign: “Meet Me Halfway: Raising Awareness of Homeless Teens and Foster Children.”

TEMECULA, CA – The Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival is rolling out “barrels for the cause” and country music star Jimmy Wayne June 4-6, 2010. Wayne, performing at the annual Festival June 4, is the National celebrity spokesperson for FosterClub. The Festival will place empty wine barrels in the concert area for donations to Jimmy Wayne's campaign: “Meet Me Halfway: Raising Awareness of Homeless Teens and Foster Children.”

In January, Wayne embarked on a 1,660 mile walk from Nashville, TN to Phoenix, AZ to increase public knowledge of homeless teens and foster children. Walking 25 miles a day, Jimmy fits his miles in between concerts, speaking with state governors and in Washington, D.C. He has walked 721 miles to date, with July as his target month for hitting Phoenix. Wayne’s walk and campaign has brought the plight of foster children who “age out” into the forefront as he Tweets his progress daily on twitter.

Nearly 20,000 foster care teens "age-out" of the foster care system each year, according to CharityGuide.org. Once they reach 18, their state and foster families are no longer required to give them assistance. They are left to fend for themselves.

One-hundred percent of the donations made to the barrels will go to the “Meet Me Halfway” charity. To learn more visit: meetmehalfway.jimmywayne.com

Wayne performs Friday, June 4, at the Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival. Wayne’s career first took off with a remake of Hall & Oates’ pop classic “Sara Smile.” His debut CD appeared in 2003 and produced the top-10 hits “Stay Gone and “I Love You This Much.” Wayne’s 2008-09 hit “Do You Believe Me Now” remained No. 1 for three weeks.

New Faces of Country Headline Friday Night at Temecula Wine Fest

Friday night, June 4 the Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival will feature three of the newest stars on the country music scene beginning with headliner Jimmy Wayne.

Wayne’s career first took off with a remake of Hall & Oates’ pop classic “Sara Smile.” He sang the tune regularly during his days as a North Carolina prison guard, auditioned with it in 2002 and got a contract with DreamWorks Records. His debut CD appeared in 2003 and produced the top-10 hits “Stay Gone and “I Love You This Much.” After DreamWorks shut its doors, Wayne signed with Valory Music Company and released “Do You Believe Me Now” a No. 1 for three weeks in 2008-09.

On Saturday, April 3, Wayne celebrated making it to his halfway point for his walk for homeless teens titled “Meet Me Halfway.” Wayne was in Amarillo, Texas after walking 93 days and 977 miles from his starting point of Nashville, Tennessee. He will end the walk in Phoenix, Arizona. No stranger to adversity, Wayne’s father abandoned his family. His mother went to prison, and Wayne was shuttled to a series of foster homes. His stepfather tried to murder him and he was a homeless teen until a North Carolina couple took him in and encouraged his love of music. Wayne’s walk can be followed at http://meetmehalfway.jimmywayne.com or you can follow him on twitter.com/JimmyWayne.

The Band Perry and Bomshel will also be in concert Friday as part of the Country Friday lineup. The Band Perry currently has their hit song “Hip to My Heart” at #24 on the Billboard Country Song Chart, and has spent 22 weeks on the charts. Comprised of siblings Kimberly, Reid and Neil Perry, the family band had their first country recording session in 2008, caught the ear of Scott Borchetta and Jimmy Harnen, the CEO and president of Republic Nashville, and signed with the new label in the summer of 2009. The group is finishing their debut album due to come out later this year.

Bomshel, a vivacious duo act of fiddle player Kristy Osmunson and lead singer Kelley Shepard, rounds out the three-act show. Their song “Fight Like A Girl” released late last year peaked at No. 30 on the Country Charts. Their album of the same title, was released in October and has peaked at No. 24. In January the duo was nominated by the Academy of Country Music for Top New Duo. The awards are this month.
